WOLSINGHAM Taekwondo club was the most successful organisation in a Darlington martial arts event.

Twelve youngsters, who train twice a week at Wolsingham Club in the Market Place, achieved high marks and were promoted to higher grades.

Instructor Katey Wallace, fourth dan, said: "I am delighted for all of them. They really deserve top class marks because they all put 100 per cent effort and commitment into their martial art."

"They have done extremely well because they achieved a lot higher marks than any other club in the North-East, which for a club this size is extraordinary.

"But it's all down to the hard work they put in. I hope they all keep it up."

Christopher Waite, Isaac Hall-Nixon and Kirsty Bird all achieved first belt (8th Kup) with merit.

Other results were: promoted to 7th Kup: Lucy Pitchford; promoted to 6th Kup: James Lumsdon; promoted to 5th Kup: Isobel and Charlotte Callard; promoted to 4th Kup: Daniel Crawford; promoted to 3rd Kup: Jake Crawford; promoted to 1st Kup: Alex Callard.

Alexander Gray, 11, and Richard Crawford, 17, also passed the pre-dan grade, allowing them to take their first dan and second dan black belts respectively on April 29.

Adult and junior lessons are available on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
