FRENCH markets and euro currency will be subjects for pupils during their International Week.

Teesside Prep School's programme will take place from April 23 to 27, helping pupils to learn about cultures around the world.

For the first week, pupils will be exploring Africa, Canada, Brazil and India.

Year six children will take part in a European market, and have their money changed to euros to provide a French shopping experience.

Year three pupils will take part in a French taster session - with the emphasis firmly on tasting, as they try out French delicacies.

Girls from the senior department, who speak of various languages, will teach the children phrases in Urdu, German, Italian, Arabic and Chinese.

Visitors will include international storytellers, musicians and dancers.

Guest of honour for the week will be Marianne Lachenicht, from Greyston School in South Africa, who is visiting as part of a teacher exchange.

The week will culminate in an assembly as part of the Global Campaign for Education's Join Up campaign. The school has invited 40 other schools in the area to join them at Preston Park to form a chain, to help lobby for education for children in other countries, where 80 million do not receive schooling.

North-East MEP Martin Callanan and Stockton MP Dari Taylor will join the children and represent their views to the European Parliament.
