KEEN gardeners in a country town are preparing to throw open the gates to their gardens for a fundraising weekend.

On Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 residents in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, will be opening their gardens to raise funds for Teesside Hospice.

They will be sharing gardening advice, tips and experiences with other gardeners and a number will be selling plants, cakes and refreshments to raise further funds.

Stokesley Open Gardens has been organised by Julia Haigh and in 2013 raised £9,000 for Teesside Hospice.

She said: “We have even more new and varied gardens open at this year’s event, including Stokesley allotments, so we’re really excited.

"The Farmer’s Market is also taking place during the weekend, so Stokesley will be buzzing with people. It’s going to be a lovely weekend and hopefully we can raise as much as possible for our local hospice.”

Admission is £5 per person through the purchase of a programme, which contains details of all the gardens, their locations and a map. They are on sale at a number of businesses and the Teesside Hospice charity shop on the High Street and College Square in Stokesley, or from the hospice website at: www.teessidehospice.org.
