OVER-50s who want to do what they can for others in the same age group are being sought in North Yorkshire.

The Hambleton Over-Fifties Forum and Richmondshire Senior Forum are looking for members who are interested in services provided for older people across the area.

The forums have produced a leaflet that enables prospective members to say what subjects they are interested in and what sort of involvement they want.

That can range from being a committee member, speaking up for older people at service provider meetings, being consulted on chosen issues or simply receiving the regular newsletter.

Chairman of the Northallerton group Denis Parnaby said: "The forums enable older people to be a part of local government user groups to ensure that the voice of older people is heard and taken into account when decisions are made.

"We do not win all the time - as next year's proposed rise in rates shows - but we do make a difference."
