A DONATION of £5,000 will be used to improve wooded areas in and around Richmond.
The money has been given to the Richmond Swale Valley Community Initiative (RSVCI) by construction company Carillion-Enterprise.
It will be put towards a habitat study and woodland management plan for Richmond and the Swale Valley corridor, which will build on work carried out by the RSVCI and Richmond and District Civic Society last summer.
John Ward, acting chairman of RSVCI, said: "We are delighted to accept this cheque and the support that CarillionEnterprise is offering.
"The purpose of the study and plan is to look at improving the recreational and amenity value of the woodland in and around Richmond, whilst protecting the rich natural habitat that it supports."
Mr Ward said work could start on the study in June if other applications for funding are successful.
