UP to 23,500 households suffered power cuts across North Yorkshire tonight following what was described as a "network fault".
At 8.15pm a spokeswoman for NEDL, which distributes electricity in the North-East and North Yorkshire, said that power had been restored to all but 12,500 properties - the majority of which were expected to be reconnected by 9pm.
By 10.20pm, NEDL reported that just one home was left in the dark.
The widespread power cuts hit homes in the Catterick, Richmond, Wensleydale, Bedale, Northallerton, and Thirsk areas.
Problems began this afternoon when an initial 6,500 homes suffered power failure.
"We don't yet know what caused it," said the spokeswoman. "It will take some time to find out exactly what happened."
