A DEVELOPER wanting to build more than 50 sheltered flats in Northallerton has appealed against the plan's rejection by councillors.
McCarthy and Stone wanted to build 57 sheltered apartments, manager's accommodation, car parking and landscaping on the site of CD Bramall Motors, in Malpas Road.
In August, council officers recommended the application be rejected because there was no provision for public open space or affordable housing.
Members of Hambleton District Council went along with the recommendation, saying there were major design flaws.
The Secretary of State has decided to hold an inquiry in Northallerton into the appeal, at a date to be set.
