BRASS bands have been competing in the region to play at The Royal Albert Hall in London over the weekend.
The North of England Brass Band Championships was held at The Gala Theatre in Durham on Saturday.
The contest attracted bands from Cleveland, Cumbria, Durham, East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and Tyne and Wear.
Each band competed in their respective graded section for the honour of representing the North of England, at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
The Championship section competes in The Royal Albert Hall, London, and the other sections currently compete in The Centaur in Cheltenham.
A spokesman for the championships said: “Brass bands in the north of England are an integral part of our social culture.
“The regional committee is committed to developing and the professional organising our event. Maintaining our heritage, through innovation and creativity, we are committed to developing our event to raise musical standards and participation.”
