A METHODIST minister has appealed for memories, pictures and mementoes from the church's history in Darlington as part of a celebration of its history.

The Celebrating Methodism in Darlington event on April 18 will include a display of looking back at 260 years since the Methodist Church was first recorded in the town.

Rev Andrew Stobart, co-Superintendent Minister in the Darlington Methodist Circuit, said he was looking for people who might have pictures of churches, including those that have since been demolished, or family stories and memories of events that took place in Methodist churches around the town.

He added: "We want to celebrate all that has gone on in the town in the Methodist Church since 1744. People might have memorabilia or photos and we'd like to see images of churches that are no longer here."

The celebration event with the display of pictures will take place in Bondgate Methodist Church between 10am and 5pm on Saturday, April 18, followed by a celebration service at 6pm.

Anyone who can contribute to the display is asked to send it to the circuit office, Bondgate Methodist Church, Salt Yard, DL3 7JJ by noon on Wednesday, April 8.
