THE world's oldest choir has come runner-up in a national competition called Care Home Idol, with their rendition of Do-Re-Mi.

A group of residents with an average age of 91 at St John’s House care home in Kirk Hammerton, near York donned traditional Austrian costumes for the performance.

The choral group was named the oldest choir in the world in the Guinness Book of Records in 2013.

Ruth Strangeway, choir mistress and activity coordinator at St John’s House, said: “The oldest choir in the world had lots of fun dressing up and singing Do-Re-Mi in front of the cameras. They would like to thank everyone who watched their performance and voted for them and helped them become one of the overall 2014 winners."
