DRAMA, music and spectacle are among more than 100 events that have been lined up to celebrate all things Norse.
This year’s Jorvik Viking Festival in York will run from February 14 to 22 and is expected to bring thousands f visitors to the city.
It will include dramatic combat performances, crafting, music and archaeological expert sessions and will culminate in a grand finale of a sound-and-light spectacular in the Eye of York.
The festival will continue with last year's theme of Ragnarok – the Viking apocalypse – played out against the backdrop of York.
Festival director Danielle Daglan said: “According to Norse mythology, time and the universe is cyclical, so even though we celebrated the end of the world with our Ragnarok theme last year, the whole cycle of life starts again for this year’s festival with the two survivors of the apocalypse - Lif and Lifthrasir.
“Our storyline will take them right back to the origins of Norse mythology to revisit the oldest legends – including the first ever battle of the Norse gods.”
She added: “Our 2014 Festival brought more visitors to York than ever before, so we are working hard to create an engaging theme for 2015 that will bring them back to the city.”
The full festival programme is now available to view online at jorvik-viking-festival.co.uk, where tickets can also be booked.
