ROASTED chestnuts, wreath making, carols and a magical woodland trail were just some of the festive treats to be found at a rural visitor centre yesterday (Saturday, December 14).
Dozens of people attended Bowlees Visitor Centre in Upper Teesdale, County Durham, and were greeted with an unforgettable winter wonderland.
Fairy lights and foliage adorned almost every surface and a roaring open fire, warm mince pies and non-alcoholic mulled wine kept the winter chills at bay.
Visitors of all ages took advantage of a variety of seasonal activities, including wreath and decoration making, festive storytelling and carol singing around the Christmas tree.
There was also a visit from Santa Claus, face painting and a winter wonderland forest trial taking in the picturesque woodland that surrounds the centre.
Danielle Lowes, of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership, which runs the centre, said: “It was a wonderful event and everyone seemed to have a good time. The craft activities and woodland trail were especially popular.
“We have had a lot of comments in our visitors’ book from people saying how great it was to have such a magical event on their doorsteps.”
