MEMORABILIA about the world's most famous motorbike exhibitionist of all time, Evel Knievel, is to go on sale at auction in the region.

The posters, shirts, jackets, books and toys, including a stunt cycle, will be sold as part of a wider auction of 'automobilia' items from Vectis Auction House in Thornaby, near Stockton.

Other objects will include car spares and parts are from Caterham and Ferrari cars, 1950s and 1960s car and motorbike brochures and a Sunny Days children’s electric powered MG TF car, one of only 15 ever made and last driven by TV presenter Fred Dibnah and a Sinclair C5 scooter-type vehicle.

Vectis posters expert, Adam Carter, explained the Robert Craig, aka Evel Knievel merchandise, included rare 'lobby' or display cards dating back to 1971 when Knievel was at the height of his fame as a dare devil motorbike stunt man and will go on sale on Thursday, December 11. Mr Carter explained the collection came from a Newcastle-based man, a life-long fan of Knievel, who had simply run out of room.

He said: "The lobby cards, they were for the Kansas State Fair, are all signed which makes them unusual. We're expecting a lot of interest."

Robert Craig, known as Evel Knievel, died aged 69 of heart disease in 2007. He had 433 bone fractures, a Guinness World Record, and once failed to jump across the Snake River Canyon in the USA .

Vectis, which usually auctions toys, is at Fleck Way and be called on 01642-750616.
