A FORMER Victorian school has been sold for £150,000 at auction.
The three buildings making up Stanley Board School, on Front Street in the former mining town, were sold as one lot.
The former school, Headmasters House and annex buildings were built over an eight year period from 1891 to 1899 and previously sat in the ownership of Durham County Council before being sold privately.
The buildings were expected to fetch at least £225,000 but went for considerably less when the sale took place at Elland Road Stadium in Leeds last week.
Paul Thompson, director and auctioneer at Pugh and Co said: “We are pleased to have achieved a strong result for Stanley Board School, with the all three buildings purchased by one bidder in the room.
“It is a very unique property and we look forward to following its journey under new ownership.”
The auctioneer has not disclosed who has bought the property.
