AN autism charity is hoping its Christmas fundraising appeal will become the latest social media selfie trend.
The North East Autism Society’s (Neas) Elfie text donate appeal was launched today (Wednesday, October 15) and the charity is urging people to join in the festive fun by sharing their elf-themed selfies on Facebook and Twitter.
The charity hopes to raise £50,000 to replicate its successful toddler group, at the North East Autism Centre in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, in other North-East towns.
Lisa Taylor, senior marketing and promotions officer at Neas, said: “This has come off the back of the ice bucket challenge and the no-makeup selfie crazes.
“We are asking people to take an elfie selfie, either by using an app or dressing up.
"They can then upload it on to face book, tag us in and nominate their friends. It should be great fun.”
Donations can be made by texting elfi14 followed by desired donation amount, such as £2, to 70070.
