A LORRY driver accused of being responsible for a fatal crash on the A19 more than a year ago has appeared in court.

John Kirk is said to be to blame for the smash in which another trucker, Andrew Nimmo, from County Durham, was killed.

Mr Kirk, 26, from Boston, Lincolnshire, did not enter a plea during today's (August 15) brief heating at Teesside Crown Court.

He will return to the court on November 7 when a date for a trial - said to be complex - is expected to be set.

Mr Nimmo, 24 from Murton, was killed and a woman seriously injured in the collision involving two lorries and a car.

The accident happened near the Mandale roundabout, at the exit for Thornaby, Stockton, on August 6.

Mr Kirk is facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing a false record to be created in respect of driver's hours.
