THE official commemorative book of the Yorkshire Grand Départ is set for a sell-out amid plans for a second print run.
Two Days in Yorkshire reveals the inside story of how the county was chosen to host the opening days of the legendary cycle race the Tour de France and features more than 200 pictures taken by some of the world’s best sports photographers.
Already the book – written by cycling author Peter Cossins and Andrew Denton, from tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire – is proving so popular that plans are being made for a second print run, just ten days after its initial launch.
Official photographer Simon Wilkinson said: “We had planned an initial print run of 1,000 books but it was clear that wasn’t going to be enough so we decided to order 3,000.
“It now looks fairly clear that the first print run will completely sell out.”
The weekend of July 5 and 6 were described by Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, as “the grandest Grand Départ in the 111 year history of the race”.
All sales so far have been pre-orders via the official web site www.twodaysinyorkshire.com
The books, which are £35 each, will be despatched and also available in hard copy from several good cycle shops and book shops from the end of August.
