POLICE took to Facebook to raise concerns would-be thieves were using a remote helicopter to spy on potential victims, only for it to be revealed as a child's toy.
Officers in Darlington posted the appeal after concerns were raised at a Police and Communities Together (Pact) meeting.
Residents had complained that a helicopter, possibly with a camera fitted to it, had been seen hovering over properties in the North Road area.
It was suspected by residents that persons unknown were using the toy to spy on properties and see what items were in their back yards.
But shortly after the appeal was posted, a woman came forward who appeared to confirm the helicopter was her son's.
It had been suggested that three men were responsible for controlling the helicopter, but no descriptions were available.
It now appears that the appeal - which had last night been removed from the police Facebook page -was nothing more than a false alarm with good intentions.
