A POLICE mobile camera van has been involved in a serious accident with a car.

North Yorkshire Police were called to deal with the serious collision which involved some of their own colleagues at 8.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 9) and a car containing four 17-year-olds.

The two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on the B1257 Stokesley to Helmsley Road, north of Chop Gate. The four male occupants of the Corsa, who had been travelling in a blue Vauxhall Corsa towards Chop Gate, were all injured. Two of them sustained serious injuries and two sustained minor injuries.

The police driver in the mobile camera van – the only occupant of the vehicle – suffered minor injuries.

Three of the casualties from the Corsa were taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment. Two remain in a stable condition in hospital and the third casualty is in hospital for tests. The fourth teenager was treated by ambulance staff and did not attend hospital. The Corsa occupants were from the Stokesley, Marton and Nunthorpe area.

The driver of the mobile safety camera van was also taken to James Cook hospital and has since been discharged.

Police are appealing to anyone who was travelling along the Helmsley to Stokesley Road and saw either vehicle before the collision or who witnessed the actual collision, to contact them.
