ADVENTURERS have completed a gruelling 24-hour challenge with five hours to spare.

Members of the County Durham-based Fire and Ice Expeditions conquered the UK Three Peaks Challenge in 18 hours and 48 minutes.

Having started climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland at 6.30pm on Thursday (June 26), they scaled Scafell Pike in the Lake District in the early hours of the next morning and finished Snowdon shortly after noon.

It was the eighth time the team had completed the challenge. They have now picked up five Platinum Medals, for times under 17 hours 30 minutes, and three Gold Medals, for times under 20 hours.

Their latest challenge has raised more than £1,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The team consisted of Dane Rollo, John Robson, Tom Simms, Ben Simms, Darren Armstrong, Duncan Hale, Steve Marin and Ian Shoemark.
