A RIDING centre for disabled people is urging the community to get involved with its welly decorating competition.
So far entries have included a banana, World Cup and plant pot with flowers, but organisers at the Riding Centre for Special People, in Escomb, near Bishop Auckland, are keen to see some more as funds raised will help pay for a new horse called Sooty.
The horse, which has also been the inspiration for one entry, is popular with riders and instructors are keen to have it around on a permanent basis. However, they need to raise £1,500.
Admission to the competition is £1 and anyone can submit an entry until Sunday.
Christine Barratt-Atkin, who runs the centre, said: “There have been some lovely entries, but not the 1,500 we were hoping for. Entries are still being taken until Sunday when they will be judged.”
The competition forms part of an open week, which finishes on Sunday, aimed at showcasing what the centre has to offer. There will also be a big family fun day on Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, which will include a variety of stalls, displays and free pony rides.
