A FOOTBALL club has unveiled its new stand after receiving support from a town council.

Willington Football Club in County Durham has built a new stand behind one of its goals at their Hall Lane ground.

Greater Willington Town Council contributed towards the Northern League club’s stand having previously supported the re-roofing of the main stadium stand and donating towards a new lawn mower for the pitch.

Willington mayor Fraser Tinsley said: “The club’s secretary, Geoff Siddle, has been the driving force behind securing the town council’s and other sponsors investment.

“The club must be proud of his vision and attempts to bring about continuous improvement to this much needed community facility that is valued by a lot of our residents.”

Willington is also celebrating the second season success of its ladies side, who sit third in the Durham County FA Women’s League table with one game to go.

An under 18s ladies development squad is also doing well.

Ladies team secretary Ian Mudd said: “Everyone involved with the ladies has been amazed by the level support we have received from grass root supporters and everyone at the club.

“In a short space of time we have integrated into the club and feel a part of the community.”
