A PRISON worker has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, police have confirmed.
The man, 43, was working at Holme House Prison near Stockton but has been suspended while Cleveland Police investigate.
A Prison Service spokesman said: “A member of staff from HMP Holme House has been suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further while this is ongoing.”
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A 43-year-old man was arrested last Tuesday (March 18) on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
“Police inquiries are continuing.”
Holme House is a Category B local prison which opened in 1992. It mainly has inmates on long sentences, but also houses a substantial number of remand prisoners.
