A MAN who was waiting for a friend to repay him £30 smashed his window after reading on Facebook that he been on a boozy night out.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court heard Ikie Llewellyn Mackinlay was angry as he realised he was unlikely to get the cash back.

Prosecutor Tahira Bouchier said the 21-year-old of Sunnyside Avenue, Shildon, saw his friend’s status update on Facebook in which he claimed to be feeling rough after a night of drinking.

Mackinlay went to his friend’s house in Shildon on January 7 and smashed a window worth £134.24.

Andrew Clinton, mitigating, said Mackinlay was annoyed by the status update as he had been asking for the  £30 he had loaned him for several weeks.

The window was in a home operated by social housing provider Livin, but district judge Martin Walker said he would not award compensation as Mackinlay already owes more than £1,400 to the court from previous appearances.

The judge said: “He owes so much money which will take years to pay.”

Mackinlay was given a six month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
