POLICE have appealed for information from witnesses to a robbery at a filling station forecourt shop.
A man approached the kiosk at the Esso Service Station at the Barnes roundabout, on the A690 Durham Road, Sunderland, in the early hours of Friday January 3 before threatening staff and demanding cash.
He then stole quantity of cigarettes and alcohol before leaving the scene.
Northumbria Police said a 31-year-old man was arrested a short time later and remains in custody, helping inquiries.
But investigators would still like to speak to any witnesses to the incident at 1.28am.
Anyone with information which can help police is asked to ring 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 55 of 3/01/14, or, alternatively, ring the independent charity Crimestoppers, on (0800) 555111.
