FOOTBALL fans travelling to Sunderland’s FA Cup tie against Carlisle this weekend (Sunday, January 5) are advised to leave plenty of time to make it for kick-off.
Police expect around 70 coaches to make the journey across from Cumbria for the third round tie at the Stadium of Light.
Kick-off is 2pm on Sunday and the A69, A1, A1231 and A1290 roads are expected to be busy from 10.30am to 1.30pm and again from 4pm onwards.
Temporary Chief Superintendent Andy McDyer of Northumbria Police said: “It’s anticipated there will be around 70 coaches travelling along the route which may cause some delays.
“We want to give motorists advance warning that there will be additional traffic on the roads so they can plan their journey accordingly and if necessary find an alternative route.
“Police will be working to keep any congestion to an absolute minimum and we would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
