LIBRARIES across the borough of Stockton will have reduced opening hours in the New Year. From Monday, January 6 libraries at Fairfield, Roseworth, Thornaby, Egglescliffe and Billingham will have new timetables and both Stockton Central and Thornaby Central libraries will no longer be open on Sundays.

Over the coming weeks, the mobile library service will be extending its local visits in those areas where library opening hours are reducing.

CHARITY TARGET: A Group of friends who raised £5,000 for cancer research in 2013 have set themselves the target of raising £20,000 next year. Jonathan Chambers, 26, of Thornaby, first started raising money after his mother, Lynn Hodgson, was diagnosed with breast cancer in December, 2011. Mrs Hodgson was eventually given the all-clear but Jonathan and his friends have vowed to continue raising money for the cause. Find out more at his website on

PANTO TIME: The Guisborough Parish Pantomime Group will stage Peter Pan at the Parish Hall, Bow Street, Guisborough from the week beginning Monday, January 13. Performances start at 7pm and there will be a matinee on Saturday, January 18 from 2pm. It’s the group’s 40th anniversary. Tickets cost £6 for adults and £5 for children and are available on the door or from the Greensleeves shop on Chaloner Street.

EMERGENCY CALLS: A management services business, Lemon Business Solutions, based in Stockton, has been providing a 24 hour service over the holiday period to help businesses dealing with emergencies. The business provides support to a number of businesses ranging from law firms and engineering to IT and the care sector. Emergencies can vary from stair lifts breaking down to helping secure legal advice.

ROTARY CLUB: The Rotary Club of Cleveland has donated £8,615 to two organisations. A total of £4,000 was given to the Langdon Square Community Centre in Coulby Newham to support the refurbishment of their kitchen and £4,615 was donated to the Unicorn Riding Centre in Hemlington which helps disabled people.
