A MOTHER who has campaigned for nearly ten years against bullying of young soldiers visited an Army base to meet members of an advisory panel.

Lynn Farr, whose son Daniel died while a recruit at the infantry training centre, at Catterick Garrison, in 1997, said the meeting yesterday was useful.

She met two members of an advisory panel recently set up to help recruits and spoke to young soldiers in training and rehabilitation.

"I did question whether the independent panel was independent enough," said Mrs Farr, who set up Daniel's Trust to help young soldiers who allege they are bullied. If you have a board of school governors, you always have a parental advisor, but the army advisory panel has no one at that level."

She also urged the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) to link with the county council safeguarding board, as has happened in East Yorkshire with RAF Leconfield's school of transport, which has young recruits.

ITC officers have agreed to look at the option and welcomed Mrs Farr's visit.

Mrs Farr also talked about Bullytext, launched in April for soldiers to report incidents of bullying by text message.
