A SCHOOL is celebrating after receiving a glowing report from Government inspectors.

Children at Wheatlands Primary School, in Redcar, impressed the Ofsted inspectors with their promise to their school and the community.

The Ofsted report highlighted how the school's 485 pupils all commit themselves to the Wheatlands Promise.

The promise, drawn up by children and staff, is reviewed each year and summarises the ethos of the school.

The report says: "They take the Wheatlands Promise very seriously, and acknowledge that being part of a community brings rights and responsibilities."

Headteacher Julie Green, praised for her outstanding leadership, is delighted with the report.

She said: "We are immensely proud of this achievement. The inspection result reflects the commitment of the whole school community. It's fantastic to have our hard work acknowledged this way."

The report states: "Pupils say they love school, behaviour is excellent and pupils have an exemplary sense of self-discipline."

Inspectors found no significant areas for improvement at the school.

In their report, they said: "There is excellent capacity for the school to maintain this outstanding record and to enjoy continued success in the face of the challenges that may arise."

The report said outstanding work is taking place in English, maths, science, internet and communications technology, art and design as well as in the foundation stage. Overall, this put the school's performance in the top ten per cent in the country.

The report added: "From an average starting point on entry to the nursery, pupils achieve extremely well and consistently attain high results at age 11.

"This is because teaching is excellent and carefully tailored to meet pupils' learning needs.

"Parents express great confidence in the school, praise the high quality of teaching and the range of exciting activities on offer and the progress the children make."

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's cabinet member for education, Councillor Steve Kay, said: "I want to congratulate everyone at Wheatlands - it really is a tremendous report.
