A CHILD plunged 30ft out of her bedroom window while sleepwalking.

But the nine-year-old survived the dive after she landed on a carpet thrown out earlier that day. She was found lying on the drive way at the side of the house in from Scarborough.

Jasmine Clark, who has sleepwalked before, escaped with 11 stitches in her chin and severe bruising. She is recovering at her home in Newlands Park Drive.

She and her sister Olivia, four, sleep in a newly converted loft. Their parents were alerted to the accident after they heard a noise from upstairs followed by screams.

Her father, Dave Clark, 41, said: "She was screaming. I'm a trained first aider but when it's your own child it's very difficult to think about what to do.

"If the carpeting hadn't been there I dread to think what Jasmine's injuries might have been like. I think the angels must have been looking over her that night."

Mr Clark said those who has come to his daughter's aid had been fantastic.

Andy Volans, the consultant in charge of Scarborough's accident and emergency unit said: "There's no doubt about it, Jasmine is a very lucky little girl. Her injuries could so easily have been a lot more serious."
