FINE weather this summer helped a town's mini golf course to set a record for the number of people who played rounds.

A total of 1,781 adults paid the full fee of £1 for 18 holes, while 4,176 children and pensioners paid the concessionary rate of 60p on the course at Barnard Castle.

The course, with all its comical obstacles was set up on Scar Top in the town centre in 1985 by the town council and has grown steadily more popular.
