POLICE are appealing for help to trace the owner of engineering equipment worth about £1,500.
Officers recovered a welding machine from the back yard of a house in Shildon earlier this month, believing it to be stolen.
But no theft of such an item has been reported and detectives at Newton Aycliffe police station are appealing for information.
Detective Constable Richard Klein said: "It could be a business or individual who had the item stolen - it appears to be relatively new and in good condition.
"Any information would be useful so we can return it to the rightful owner."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Newton Aycliffe CID on 0845-60-60-365.
