THERE will be a visit from Santa and magic tricks at two festive events in Crook.

Tomorrow, there will be a Santa's grotto in St Catherine's Church, ahead of the switching on of the Christmas lights.

Father Christmas will be there from 4pm and there will be a charge of £1 per child.

The lights will be switched on at 5pm and will be followed by a carol service.

The event is organised by Crook Community Partnership in conjunction with Wear Valley District Council.

On Saturday, there will be trade stalls and children's activities at a community partnership Christmas event, from 10am to 1pm.

Activities taking place in a marquee on the green opposite the council offices include a magic show at 10am, a performance by the Lynesack Handbell Ringers at 11am and the Glenholme Theatre Club performing part of its pantomime at noon.

From 10.30am to noon, the Salvation Army Band will perform at Royal Corner.
