THE ARTIST who designed the Dreamspace artwork has been arrested this morning by detectives investigating the tragedy.
Two women died in July when the giant inflatable structure broke free from its moorings in Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street, tipping people out to the ground.
A 74-year-old man from East London, understood to be artist Maurice Agis, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter as he attended a pre-arranged interview at Charring Cross Police Station, in London.
He was being questioned this morning by detectives from Durham Police who had travelled down to London.
Detective Superintendent Neil Malkin said: "Inquiries are continuing in this wide ranging investigation. We are awaiting reports from the Health and Safety Executive's laboratory and it is likely to be summer next year before we are in a position to put a file before the Crown Prosecution Service."
