A STUDENT who inspired her classmates to raise cash for research into a life-threatening condition has handed over £4,000 to charity.
Sheryl Stephenson, a student at Durham Gilesgate College, was one of 50 students from the school who took part in this year's Great North Run to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
The 16-year-old, who also suffers from cystic fibrosis, raised £2,500 and the contribution from her friends brought the total up to £4,000.
Pat Kilpatrick, regional fundraising manager for the North-East, said: "They have done incredibly well - it is a remarkable sum to have been raised."
