SCHOOLCHILDREN from two primary schools were taught Indian dancing yesterday.
About 56 pupils from Osmotherley Primary School and Swainby and Potto Primary School took part in the class.
Three dancers from the Anna Purna Dance School showed the children a range of moves and some Indian dances based on Hindu stories.
One group did a drumming dance, accompanied by an Indian drummer and a group of girls did some classical Indian dance.
The workshop was followed by an evening performance for family and friends.
The dancers gave a 40-minute demonstration of their skills and the children performed a story dance about Ganesh, the God of Wisdom.
Penny Vernon, headteacher at Osmotherley school, said: "It was absolutely super and very inclusive. Everybody enjoyed it. They all took part and they were fired up for it. It is a lovely way to finish our topic on India.
"Both schools have carried out studies about India this year and this is the climax of the project.
