A TALENTED young guitarist is celebrating after he won a competition.
Joel Finnan, 13, of Chester-le-Street, won the young musician title at Stockton Music Festival.
Joel, who studies at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle, has been playing classical guitar since he was six and is being taught by Robin Thoedy, from Durham.
Joel performed a piece from Opus 6 by Fernando Sor.
He passed his Grade 7 exam with merit last year and is now working towards Grade 8.
As well as classical playing he also enjoys electric guitar and his metal band, When All Light Dies, has just performed its first gig.
He said: "I probably enjoy rock more because it is less of a struggle. In the band, you have other members and are together in a group making music."
