A SCHEME to tackle community concerns is running in east Durham and residents are being urged to get involved.

A Community Action Team (CAT), led by Durham County Council, is working in Murton to address issues ranging from littering and fly-tipping to concerns about empty properties, noise and illegal sales of alcohol and tobacco.

Residents are invited to a meeting on Tuesday to help identify the priority issues for the group to tackle.

Joanne Waller, head of environment, health and consumer protection at Durham County Council, said: “This is one of a series of Community Action Team initiatives which are being held in communities across County Durham.

“It’s an ideal opportunity for local people to get involved in helping to improve their neighbourhood so we’re hoping as many people as possible will come along and help to shape the CAT’s priorities in Murton.”

The team involves the council, police, fire and health services and it will be operating in Murton until June 16.

The meeting will take place at the Glebe Centre, Durham Place, Murton, between 6pm and 7.30pm Weekly drop in sessions for residents to speak to members of the team will also take place at the Glebe Centre on four Thursdays – May 9, 16, 23 and 30 – between 10.30am and 1pm.

People can go along to get updates on the progress being made, identify new areas of concern and report issues.
