CAR lovers were able to take a step back in time this weekend at a vintage car rally featuring classic vehicles from across the decades.

The event organised by the Northern Bygones Society in Darlington’s Horsemarket attracted crowds of people keen to reminisce about cars from their past.

The rally returns to the market square today (Monday, May 6), between 10am and 4pm.

More than 20 cars were on display on Saturday, including a 1934 Morris Ten Four, two former police cars and a classic Mini.

Paul Jackson, from the society, said he was pleased to see so many people interested in the vehicles on display.

He added: “The car owners were mingling among the crowd and talking to people about the vehicles. You get lots of people saying that they’ve seen their first car, or the car they learned to drive in.

“We even end up giving advice to people who are looking for spare parts and that kind of thing.”

The Northern Bygones Society was formed in January 2011 and meets at the Oak Leaf Sports Complex, in Newton Aycliffe, at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of each month.

The society will hold another event at Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum on Sunday, May 19, between 11am and 3pm.

The exhibition will include smaller collectibles from past decades, including model cars, pocket watches and miniature trains.
