A COASTAL area which has been blighted by fly-tipping has had a spring clean.

A team of volunteers worked together on Friday to clean up the Denemouth area at Blackhall, in east Durham.

They were joined by representatives from Durham County Council, Durham Constabulary, Durham Heritage Coast and Natural England.

Ian Hoult, the council’s neighbourhood protection manager, said: “We’re carrying out the clean up of the Denemouth area in response to complaints from local people about fly-tipping.

“Overall in County Durham we have seen a 20 per cent reduction in the number of incidents of fly-tipping in the last 4 years and we remain committed to tackling this issue.

“We would appeal to anyone with information which could help us to catch those responsible for fly-tipping to contact us so that we can take appropriate action.”

To report fly-tipping or provide information about those responsible people should contact Durham County Council on 03000-261-000.
