POLICE are investigating a blaze at a home where a woman in her 70s was found dead.
The home, on Sandy Lane in Stockton-on-the-Forest, just outside York, was cordoned off for several hours by police on Saturday (May 4), following a fire at the detached house at about 10am.
The woman, who has not been named, was found inside the house by fire-fighters and pronounced dead at the scene.
It is not yet known whether the woman died as a result of the fire, but police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
The fire was extinguished with an hour, but investigators remained at the house, which is situated in a picturesque part of the village, to try and establish the circumstances of the woman’s death.
