EIGHTIES hitmaker Rick Astley will headline at a seaside concert this summer.

The pop icon, who topped the charts in 1987 with his debut single Never Gonna Give You Up, will perform at Bents Park, South Shields, on Sunday July 28 in the South Tyneside Summer Festival 2013..

Rick, who is set to release a new album, will si ng songs from throughout his illustrious career, including Top 10 hits Whenever You Need Somebody, Together Forever, and When I Fall In Love. ..

Eighties soul band The Christians, who had hits such as Forgotten Town, Hooverville, Ideal World and Born Again, will be the support act.

The free gig, organised by South Tyneside Council, is one of a series of open air concerts from June until the end of August. This will include two further performances in Bents Park, to be headlined by Toploader, The South and other big name acts yet to be announced.
