MUSIC lovers are being invited to an open day in two churches to have a go on their organs.

The Organ Experience has been organised by the Darlington and District Organists’ and Choirmasters Association at St Thomas’ Church in Stanhope and Stanhope Methodist Church.

Both churches in the Weardale town will open their doors from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, May 11, for visitors to listen to the pipe organs or have a go on the instruments.

Caroline Hodgson from the association said: “Visitors can hear all the various sounds of these two fine instruments, which our association members will play for them, or even have a go themselves.

“Organists and pianists can bring some music to play from.

“We can make the simplest music exciting and dramatic with the best organ sounds.

“The organ is a very important musical resource and an orchestra all by itself.”

Entry is free and refreshments will be served at St Thomas’ Church.
