A LEADING Formula One engineer has returned to his former college to get them onto the right track for a career in engineering.

McLaren F1 race engineer Dave Robson, who works on former world champion Jenson Button’s car, spoke to students at Stockton Sixth Form College about routes into engineering and working for one of the most exciting sports in world.

His talk is part of the college’s focus on inviting inspirational, local figures to speak to students about where achieving their full potential at college can take them.

The initiative has seen talks led by BBC Breakfast Business Correspondent Steph McGovern and Vice President of Sembcorp Utilities UK Jane Atkinson in recent months.

Mr Robson, who left the college with A-levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Computing in 1995, went on to study at Oxford University.

Rachel Angus, acting principal at the college, said: “We are delighted that Dave has taken time out of his hectic race schedule to come back to the College.

“It is great to give our students the chance to hear from not only a Formula One race engineer, but a hard-working ex-student who has gone on to achieve fantastic things.”
