BURLESQUE, pole and belly dancers are limbering up for a charity endurance challenge.

Twenty women from Tempest Dance Studio have signed up for the Total Warrior challenge, dubbed the toughest 10k on earth.

The Lake District race involves dodging electrical wires and fire, getting across monkey bars, crawling through underground tunnels and more.

The women, aged 20 to 40, who all attend dance classes at Vane Tempest Hall, in Gilesgate, Durham City, are raising money for the refurbishment of St Catherine’s Community Centre, in Crook, and Tabitha’s Toys, a Weardale-based children’s toys charity.

They have promised to take the challenge in their dancing costumes, or at least parts of them.

Group leader Gillian Hutton said: “The dancing is great for upper body strength. It will help on the monkey bars. We’re excited about the challenge.”

The Total Warrior 10k takes place on Saturday, August 3. For more information, visit totalwarrior.co.uk To sponsor the dancers, visit tempestdancestudio.com
