A SEARCH is underway to find the first winner of the Pendlebury award which celebrates an individual’s contribution to the conservation and culture of the North Pennines.

As reported in last week’s Northern Echo, the award has been created by the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership in memory of former Crook councillor and partnership chairman Bob Pendlebury.

Chris Woodley-Stewart, Director of the North Pennines AONB Partnership, said: “What we hope we can do with this award is to pay tribute to a remarkable man who gave up countless hours to look after the area he loved, while also thanking those people who are following in Bob’s footsteps by ensuring the North Pennines remains such a wonderful place to live and work in or visit.”

The award will go to somebody who has made a significant contribution to looking after and protecting the area’s natural beauty or a community champion.

People can nominate someone who they feel deserves to be the first winner, or they can put themselves forward.

Nomination forms and further information can be found by visiting northpennines.org.uk, by calling 01388-528801, or by emailing info@northpenniesaonb.org.uk.

Entries need to be submitted by Monday, May 20.
