SINGER and television presenter Aled Jones has cancelled a Durham Cathedral concert due to illness.

The Welsh star was due to begin a tour of UK cathedrals at Durham tomorrow night (Saturday, April 6).

However, a spokesman for SJM Concerts said today: “We are sad to announce that Aled Jones is suffering from a severe chest infection and inflamed vocal chords which make it impossible to sing and, on doctor’s orders, is having to cancel his planned performance in Durham on Saturday April 6th.”

He added: “Aled is very much hoping to continue to tour on Monday April 8 in Bangor.”

Ruth Robson, head of marketing and events at Durham Cathedral, said: “We are sorry to hear Aled Jones is unwell and wish him a speedy recovery.

“We know that members of Durham Cathedral Young Singers, our community choir for children aged eight to 13, who were to perform alongside him for part of the concert, will be disappointed, as no doubt are ticket buyers.

“We are unsure at this stage whether the concert will be rescheduled. We wish him well for the remainder of his concert tour of English cathedrals.”

Anyone who bought a ticket is invited to apply for a refund at the point of purchase, either gigsandtours.com or ticketmaster.co.uk

Mr Jones is due to perform at York Minster, supported by the choristers, on Friday, April 19.
