ARTISTS and walkers are being invited on a special tour of Weardale this summer to capture the area’s beauty.

The Landscape Art Walk organised by Dalescape is part of the the Teesdale and Weardale Guided Walking Festival being held between June 7 and 9.

The five mile circular walk, starting and ending in Frosterley, will be accompanied by a walking guide and lead by local artist Jill Campbell of Lynesack near Butterknowle.

Ms Campbell is an abstract landscape painter who is inspired by her love of the North Pennines landscape around Teesdale and Weardale.

She said: “The idea is that we can stop at about four points along the way, such as Harehope Quarry and Fine Gill Quarry, and sketch, draw or paint as the participants see fit.

“It is an opportunity to give people interested in art and walking a taste of the fascinating landscape that inspires me.

“I love the wildness and beautiful big skies in Teesdale and Weardale, which create wonderful atmosphere.”

Those taking part will have to bring their art equipment or camera.

It is expected the walk may take up to six hours and will cost £25.
