A 55-year-old cyclist was air-lifted to hospital after colliding with a Saab 93 on the A68 at Castleside, near Consett, in County Durham.
The Great North Air Ambulance was called out at 12.40pm today (Monday April 1) and the helicopter crew performed advanced emergency procedures.
Working with road paramedics they restarted the patient’s heart.
The man was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle within five minutes and his condition has been described as ‘critical’.
