A NORTH-EAST dance troupe made the final three of a televised dance contest, but just fell short of winning the title.

Street dance crew Ruff Diamond made it to the end of tonight's live final of Sky1's Got to Dance competition.

But the Hartlepool group, dancing in front of a 6,000-strong crowd at London's Olympia, were ultimately beaten to the £250,000 top prize.

Ruff Diamond, made up of six friends aged 18 to 22 who have been dancing together since 2008, wowed the crowd in the dance-off with a performance sampling Michael Jackson's Beat It.

But they were unable to beat eventual winner Lucas McFarlane.

Judge Ashley Banjo, leader of Diversity, told them: "It's really hard for a street dance act to capture the public imagination, but you have done that."
